On drums we have Steve Jessop
Steve comes from Lytham in Lancashire and starting playing with friends at school for fun. Whilst at Hull University, he met some local guys and formed the Johnny Solo Band with them. They subsequently won a Radio 1 competition judged by none other than now local guy Nick Lowe. They won a weekend to record with Nick at his Shepherds Bush studio which resulted in absolutely nothing more than some quality recordings – one of which appears in a recently pressed CD entitled ’15 minutes (or more) of The Johnny Solo Band’.
Steve recently gave a copy to Nick Lowe at the 2019 Ealing Blues Festival
…I think Nick has hazy memories of our time spent together but he signed a couple of copies nonetheless……
Steve was then the drummer and percussion player for a band called ‘Nyam Nyam’ who went on to sign for Beggars Banquet subsidiary Situation Two and produced an album ‘Hope of Heaven’ which was recently (2016) reissued and appears on Spotify. A single was produced by Peter Hook of Joy Division and New Order fame which went to number one in some Benelux countries – wherever they are!
Before joining the GGB Steve played in various cover bands and now loves looking at the backs of Geoff, Mauritzio and Christian on a regular basis……..
